It’s here again! Oasis Farm Waterloo is very excited to throw open our gates for our first Family Day since October! We’ll be open on Sunday the 18th April from 1pm – 4pm for families (whether or not they include children, or even if they’re the kind of family that you get to choose) and each group will be asked to book a slot here: tinyurl.com/FarmFamilyDay

We’ll come back to you to confirm your spot within a few days. Within your hour you’ll be able to visit with the animals, explore the farm and get involved with some craft. We’ll also have some Spring flower bouquets for sale.

Our next COVID-secure volunteer day will be on the 9th of January. We’ll be working from 11am – 3pm, keeping to the rhythm we’ve built over the last few months. You’ll have to bring your own lunch but we can guarantee some excellent company while you eat it, and some good jobs for working up your appetite.

We’re excited to kick start 2021 on the farm with lots of spring time prep and yearly animal checks. As always there’s also lots of mucking out, fixing up and gardening to do. So you’re invited to come and keep the farm looking fresh.

We only have a limited capacity for volunteers at the moment, so you’ll need to register here: https://forms.gle/4FCPNJgYDUcdPmdu7
for a place. We’ll then confirm the place and send you some details on our COVID secure measures.

Anytime the Wind Can Change – Shadow Puppet Show

A beautiful, intimate evening of acoustic music and shadow puppetry. Suitable for all ages.

On November 1st, The New Shadow Cabinet and Oasis Farm Waterloo bring you an intimate evening of music and folklore.

Told through the age-old artform of shadow puppetry and music, Anytime The Wind Can Change shares with audiences the touching parable of two lonely giants on opposite sides of an ocean, performed by an international collective of world-class artists, puppeteers and musicians unexpectedly united through the turmoil of this year.

The performance will take place in a covid secure manner, there’ll be warm drinks to have, marshmallows to toast and we’ll all have a reason to be glad it’s getting darker earlier.

Total duration: 80 minutes

30 mins – Acoustic Concert, Benjamin Yellowitz

Benjamin Yellowitz takes the singer/songwriter format to new levels with his unique mix of mysterious, slow-burning pop worked into magic with his dark production style. Featured on several BBC Introducing Sessions, Benjamin has received considerable critical acclaim and is a rising star in the UK’s independent music scene.

10 minute interval

40 mins – Anytime The Wind Can Change

Two lonely giants fall in love across a vast sea, sending messages to each other on the wings of birds, but as peace becomes chaos in the wake of a disaster, cracks start to appear. Naut and Astrid float closer together as their people drift further apart – but in the darkest hours we sometimes find the best of humanity.

//

Anytime The Wind Can Change is a contemporary folktale about compassion in a time of chaos, originally written for Woodford Folk Festival’s Closing Ceremony (Australia’s largest annual outdoor performance), now reimagined in the charming medium of shadow. Told with simple yet beautifully detailed puppets and a moving live score, Anytime The Wind Can Change is a story for all ages that reminds us to consider the struggles and journeys of people who are brave enough to ask us for help.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream on the Farm!

For one day only we’re super excited to welcome Butterfly Theatre to Oasis Farm to perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream! Shakespeare’s plays weren’t originally written for grand and stiff auditoriums, but were instead performed out in the fresh air, in courtyards, marketplaces and surrounded by livestock. Which is, funnily enough, exactly what we’ve got on the farm!

Watch Puck creating havoc as he mixes in too many bubbles; and the key-worker mechanicals as they attempt to hold the show together… all with the sounds of the animals as accompaniment!

Be a part of reinvigorating the arts through community and safe, socially distanced theatre, one city farm at a time.

All tickets and more info can be found on Eventbrite.

Performances are on the 30th of August at 11am, 2pm and 5pm.

Tickets are £18/£13 and £49 for a family of four.

September Volunteer Day

After the success of our first COVID-secure volunteer day we’re back with another one on the 12th of September (11am – 3pm)! To keep everyone safe you’ll have to bring your own lunch still BUT we’re super excited to be able to welcome more volunteers back to the site!

Spring hasn’t slowed down on the farm and has brought us a Summer that’s full of vegetables and flowers. There’s a lot of weeding to do post lockdown as well as some general fixing up of the site. You’re invited to come and help us get things ship-shape and welcome our big animals home.

Oasis Farm Temporary Closure

In line with current Government advice Oasis Farm Waterloo has currently suspended our events programme of family days, volunteer days and one-off events including the upcoming Circus Spectacular on the farm. We’ll be updating this page as we know more and are aiming to get you all some farm time again as soon as it’s safe.

However, we realise that in a time where things are uncertain and we need to be physically distant from each other, this is exactly the time where we need community, where we need to connect with people and find some hope, some chink of light in unsettling times.

So the farm might be pausing activities but Oasis Hub Waterloo is not going away; we think that instead of social distancing we should be practising physical distancing – we’ll be staying in touch via social media, WhatsApp, and soon we’re going to launch some online initiatives offering a range of practical ways in which we can continue to stay in touch, keep healthy, and look after our wellbeing.
